O Lord, maker of all things, master of the universe: send your Holy Spirit to our brothers and sisters in France this day. May they be comforted and find peace in the midst of such chaos. May the light of your redeeming love through Jesus Christ, our Lord, shine brightly upon the darkness in which they find themselves. Allow your Church to be your mouthpiece, to give words of solace; and may we be your body, that those who mourn may find shelter in our bosom. For those who have died, we ask that you have mercy upon them, and grant them entrance into your eternal kingdom, according to their faith and your will. We cry out to you O Lord, and ask that you forgive those who have perpetrated this evil. For they did not know the truth of their actions. Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus, that evil may be chained, and righteousness reign forevermore. Amen.

O gracious God, we thank you this day for the gift of family and friends, many of whom are now departed. In your mercy O Lord, grant them eternal peace in your kingdom, according to their faith and service to you. While in their mortal bodies, they were flawed, yet loved dearly, and even to this day we remember their spirits. Have mercy O Lord, upon our loved ones who have tasted death, for through your beloved son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, the grave shall not prevail. Therefore, holding steadfast to your eternal covenant, we proclaim our faith in the resurrection of the dead, and life in the world which is to come. Amen.

A Prayer for Good Friday

Lord Christ, have mercy upon us your servants. Give us grace this day to walk in love and peace to the glory of your Name. Keep us ever mindful of your most holy Passion, that we too may be faithful witnesses, and die to self this day.

Holy Mary, God-bearer, mother of our Lord: as we remember the passion of your most blessed Son, keep us ever mindful in your prayers this day. Intercede for us to your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ; that we may have the strength and fortitude to resist temptation and live this day without sin through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

I cry out to you O Lord, in the depths of my despair. My cries for help have fallen on deaf ears, and those who could help cannot be found. My God the fear that wells up within my soul! Shall Hades continue to reap his wealth from my Tartarean sorrow? Only you can save me, my God! Are you not my shepherd? Hear me O God of Job; He who has crafted the universe! Release me of this I beg of you! You are the Father who gives only good gifts; the God who hands not over death to His child who asks for bread. Grant your Holy Spirit to comfort me! By the power and the passion of the Cross, free me from these chains!

A Collect for Memorial Day

O God of Heaven, hear our prayers and our lament.
Hear us O Lord.

For those who have fallen in uniform;
Lord hear our prayer.

For those who have lost their life in service to their cause;
Lord hear our prayer.

For those who have come home, crippled and maimed;
Lord hear our prayer.

For those who have suffered psychological trauma due to violence;
Lord hear our prayer.

When shall morning come?
We wait for the Lord.

Lord hear our prayers;
Hear our lament.

For the casualties of war, both sinner and sinless;
Christ have mercy.

For the widows and orphans;
Christ have mercy.

For the destruction of communities;
Christ have mercy.

You Lord, are our refuge.
We cry out to you, O Lord.

Lord hear our prayers;
Hear our lament.

Almighty God, we are guilty of heinous sins against your Holy Name. We have murdered our brethren, sought retribution, and more.
Have mercy, O Lord.

We have defiled your Sacraments, and have forgotten all love for our enemies. In our grief we have forsaken the way of the Cross.
Have mercy, O Lord.

Lord do not be angry with us, for we are heartily sorry for our actions against You.
Have mercy, O Lord.

+Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.
Amen.

O great God of Heaven!

How far we have strayed from your Holy commands.

In your most august Name,
we have murdered our brethren,
plundered the poor,
and spit upon the forsaken.

Even now we have cast an idol
of steel
and iron
and we have worshiped it-
crying,
“Lord! Lord! Truly only thou art god!”

No longer is our trust placed in You,
O Lord.

Our trust is in missiles
and machinations of war.

With a single button,
we can annihilate the entirety of our enemies.
We can send millions of your children to their deaths.

Without regard for our own children,
we have raped the earth of its natural resources
in futile attempts to gain temporal riches.

This we have done in spite of knowing
that true richness is found only in You,
O God.

Forgive us Father of our sinful ways,
and guide us back into Your merciful arms.

Let us be blessed enough to somehow accomplish
even a minuscule portion of Your work
before we enter eternity.

Thy will be done, O Lord.

Amen.
